STAFF QUALIFICATIONS

Summer staff are required to:

  • Be a minimum of 18 years old.
  • Be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Have graduated from high school or possess equivalent experience by May 2025.
  • Be capable of safely lifting up to 50 lbs. (with or without reasonable accommodation).
  • Complete a detailed medical history (medical forms will be provided upon offer of the position).
  • Submit to a criminal background check (instructions provided upon offer of the position).
  • Commit to working throughout June and July, including staff training and summer camps.

If accepted, summer staff will be subject to a random drug test during the summer season.

What does a typical day of camp look like?

How many staff are hired each summer?

For summer 2025, we will be hiring 8 total summer program staff (4 guys; 4 girls).

What is summer staff housing like?

Summer Program Staff live in dedicated cabins shared with 3-4 other staff members. All staff cabins feature air conditioning, bedroom furniture, bathrooms, showers, and other necessities.

Is housing or food provided to summer staff for free?

Yes. Meals, snacks, and staff housing are provided at no cost to Summer Program Staff.

Will I have access to WiFi?

Yes! WiFi is available on campus.

Am I required to work for the entire summer?

No, but Summer Program Staff employment requires a minimum commitment of 6 weeks.

What is the staff dress code?

The summer staff dress code at our camp is designed to ensure comfort, safety, and professionalism while fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for our campers. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Comfortable and Camp-Appropriate: Wear breathable, casual clothing suitable for outdoor activities, such as T-shirts, shorts, or athletic pants. Avoid clothing with offensive or inappropriate messages or graphics.
  • Closed-Toe Shoes: Closed-toe shoes, like sneakers, are required to ensure safety during activities.
  • Camp T-Shirts: Staff are provided with camp-branded T-shirts that must be worn during designated times or events.
  • Modest Swimwear: For water activities, wear modest swimwear appropriate for working with children. No bikinis or men’s speedos, please.
  • Weather-Ready: Be prepared for changing weather with layers, rain gear, and sun protection (like hats and sunglasses).
Will I receive any time off?

Yes. Summer Program Staff receive a half-day each Friday and a full day off on Saturdays.

Will I be outside all of the time?

No. There are activity areas and resting spots that are located indoors, but you’ll spend a lot of your day outside with campers!

What are the ages of the campers I will work with?

Summer Program Staff assist campers from 6 years of age to adults.

Will I be able to do my laundry at camp?

Yes. All Summer Program Staff have access to a free laundry facility on-site at Camp. Just bring your own detergent.

What happens at night?

There are nightly scheduled events, such as campfires, camp-wide games, and group activities that you will participate in. Our team also helps with camp duties and camper needs when campers and counselors head back to their cabins. Once all duties are finished, staff are off until “lights out.”

Is there anything fun to do nearby on my days off?

Yes. Camp Kamassa is located approximately 45 minutes from Jackson, MS, 2.5 hours from New Orleans, LA, and 3 hours from Mobile, AL.
